Planet Earth - a free, dark, vBulletin forum style

Peggy
02-25-2009, 01:18 PM
Planet Earth is the newest of my very few dark styles. This style features -

optimized for postbit_legacy
separated categories
95% original images
valid XHTML 1.0 Transitional (http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.tbdstyles.com%2Findex.p hp%3Fstyleid%3D37&charset=%28detect+automatically%29&doctype=Inline&group=0)

PREVIEW (http://www.tbdstyles.com/index.php?styleid=37)

Click on the "Install" button on the right of this post, then download the zip file to your computer and extract it (I put it on my desktop, it's easier to remember where I put it!).
Open your ftp client to your server. Go to your forum's images folder, open it, and create a styles folder.
Next, upload the earth folder via FTP to your server, into your forum's styles folder, so that your image path is images/styles/earth/buttons, for example.
After you've uploaded the folder, open your admin control panel on your forum, and import the xml file, by going to Styles & Templates > Download / Upload styles > Import Style XML File.
Click on the Browse button, locate the earth-style.xml, and double-click it so that it loads in that box, then hit the Import button.

The zip file contains a blanks folder with 2 blank buttons in PNG format, for easy editing. No psd's are available.

Enjoy! :rose:

Very nice ..but how about a 3.7 version ;)

Peggy

This will probably work on 3.7, but I'm not 100% positive.

5 stars ;)

hey, is there anyway i can edit somewhere to stop the writing in the Categorys from starting a new line please?
like i just would like the Category title in one line?
thanks

Edit: also Social Groups default images missing sorry ;)

Peggy
03-10-2009, 08:49 AM
That's odd. I've not had that problem with this style.

blackss
03-10-2009, 09:08 AM
i think the more thinner the style gets the more it does it. eg: if i made the style 130% width it would display as 1 line. but because of my side columns its pushed the style in a little more. would be good if there was a way around this.
cheers.

Peggy
03-10-2009, 09:22 AM
Doesn't help that I have an image there on the left that pushes the link in, either.

Peggy
03-10-2009, 10:25 AM
Ok I just tested this on the preview site, and put in a loooooooooong category name with no issues at all. Take a look at the 3rd category - http://www.tbdstyles.com/index.php?styleid=37

blackss
03-10-2009, 06:43 PM
ok i see that cat as 2 lines. im now thinking it must be a firefox thing, i'll test on IE now.

EDIT: IE i still see 2 lines.
hey not to worrie ok, after all its a free style, its not like i payed for it so i shouldnt complain yeah ;)
cheers.

Peggy
03-10-2009, 06:49 PM
for me, it's one line, in both IE and FF. What size monitor width do you use? Resolution?

Peggy

Peggy

ugh that's the problem, the smaller resolution. The only thing I can think of is to remove the image on the left side of the cat strip for smaller resolutions.

hi cool, you mean the mt-left.gif?

EDIT: thanks i made the mt-left.gif shorter and fixed the problem thank you ;)

1- i use it on arabic forum so i was have to change the directions

and i done that but the form id now looks like that

" attached "

and i want it to be in the right

2- there is 3 files with the style 2 buttons and 1 don't work

i wish u tell me how to solve that

thanks

Peggy

That category strip that you attached is coded, and I have no idea how to make it work right to left, I'm sorry.

By logo, if you're talking about the text on the header, there is no psd.
It's just text and you save it as either a gif or png.

The most likely reason your getting that error is that your parent style is using it and this earth style doesn't.
If possible change your parent style of planet earth style or set it up without a parent.
I have had this error before in th epast with different themes.
thanks and hope that helped.

Hi!

First thanks for this great style, works here without a problem.

But i got the same error like dingo in my apache error.log and additional 2 errors about this 2 missing files:

/misc/bookmarksite_misterwong.gif
/misc/bookmarksite_yigg.gif

The strange thing is, i don't have a set up a parent style for planet earth... :(

*Edit*

Mhhh, ok. I think the link/include of the cat_back.gif file was added by the earth-style.xml into the forumhome_forumbit_level1_nopost template. Maybe someone can check/confirm this?

Thanks in advance for an reply.

*Edit2*

Ok, i fixed the missing the 2 errors from the bookmarks by copying the files from the standard- style. Now only the cat_back.gif error is still left... :)

Hi fisch - I'm sorry but I honestly have no idea what's happening with that cat_back.gif error. I don't have that image in this style, so this is truly puzzling to me.

The font used on the buttons is Trebuchet MS and sz 8 I believe. I also used bold.

Ok, so i just can remove this part:

style="background-image:url($stylevar[imgdir_misc]/cat_back.gif)"of the forumhome_forumbit_level1_nopost template from your planet earth template to solve this problem?

Thanks in advance for an reply.

Hello. Love the theme, but am having some problems with the 'announcement' area of our forums. They can be seen here: www.spartandieseltech.com/forum (http://www.spartandieseltech.com/forum)

Notice the weird spacing and lack of images in the announcement section at the top.

Any advice on where to begin looking?

Thanks in advance!

Those forums aren't set in a category, so that's why they're screwed up. They have to be set in a category in order to work correctly.

Hey Peggy

thanks for the nice theme.

I have a question about installing it.
I have followed steps 1-3 on how to upload it, but in steps 4 you say to go to the upload/download bit in the styles section of the admin panel.
Im using pHp3 and they dont have a section for uploads available in the style section, so how would i go about using your style?

Thanks

Ren

Peggy

php3? Is that another bulletin board?

These styles are designed for use with vBulletin only. I can't instruct you on how to use them with another forum script, because I don't use anything else.

Moreover, they probably won't work on another forum script because they are customized strictly with vBulletin templates.

best theme on the whole forum. Google couldn't even bring back any results as good as this!!!!!

Just a request, you should do more themes like this (it gets away from the BORING default themes that everyone and their dog uses). I have a friend that uses 3.8.2 and he has this AMAZING theme, is there a way you can do some themes that have a border like his?

Did you read my reply to that person? He tried to make this style a fixed width, which you can't do.

You also can't "stretch" a banner to fit a fluid width and have it look the same on every resolution. The banner has to be sliced, there needs to be a background piece for the banner that can repeat across the top, and your header template above needs to be rewritten.

As for the other issue, I have NO idea why y'all are gettng the posts/threads. My live preview here clearly shows Threds/Posts, as it should be.

I would suggest downloading the style from here, and re-importing the xml file. That will straighten that out.

How do I do this? I have neva eva done it befoe. :o

your header template above needs to be rewritten.
I hate to bug you with this but... could you help me out on that too please? :o I have no idea on what the code should look like or be. I'm a pro when it comes to copy/paste though. lol :D

As for the other issue, I have NO idea why y'all are gettng the posts/threads. My live preview here clearly shows Threds/Posts, as it should be.

That is SO odd. As you can see on my demo forum, they're correct.

Tell ya what, I've downloaded the style xml from the demo board and attached it here. Re-import the xml and tell me if that fixes it, please.

Sorry about this!

Thanks Peggy, Strange one indeed, downloaded that and still the same unfortunately. I can live with it though, only a few have noticed it.

Hi!

Thanks Peggy, Strange one indeed, downloaded that and still the same unfortunately. I can live with it though, only a few have noticed it.

Just edit the forumhome_forumbit_level1_nopost and FORUMDISPLAY Templates and replace this:

<td class="thead" width="5%">$vbphrase[posts]</td>
<td class="thead" width="5%">$vbphrase[threads]</td>
with this:

<td class="thead" width="5%">$vbphrase[threads]</td>
<td class="thead" width="5%">$vbphrase[posts]</td>
in each Template. Works for me without a problem. :)

*Edit*

Ah, and don't forget to clear the browser cache after the edits... :)
