I don't want to do the hack, perhaps through the promotion system, but how? Please help. Peggy 02-02-2007, 07:58 AM You should be able to do that through your usergroups julia. julia 02-02-2007, 05:26 PM I went to my unregistered members usergroup , and checked disable to download attachments. Then i saved, went to see if it works, it doesn't. I went to VB site, they said you need a hack for that, or create a promotion. I decided to do a promotion. But don't know how. rolfw 02-03-2007, 04:16 AM You shouldn't need a hack Julia, you need to change permissions. Forums and moderators/Forum Permissions/ then click Edit on the unregistered group on each main section. In the top section "Edit Forum Permissions" I have the first three as yes and the second three as no. :) If you look at this thread (http://www.satellites.co.uk/satellite/picture-forum-members-setups-general-satellite-installations/87574-my-setup-little-large.html#post538760), you should not be able to view the photos attached to it, but if you are logged in, you will see a thumbnail. @ Admin, I am able to start the upload of a photo attachment, but I have zero attachment quota, so it fails. ;) julia 02-03-2007, 06:59 PM Rolf, i have done it, i checked it's set that they can't have access to the attachments. Bu it still let them see it. I went to vb, and they say it's imposible to edit it, that you have to create a promotion. I just don't know exactly how. rolfw 02-04-2007, 01:42 PM I'm a little confused here Julia, are you saying that they can still view say a jpeg file, or are you saying that they can see that it is there, but not view it? If it is the latter, then I prefer it that way, as it is a spur for people to register. julia 02-04-2007, 04:42 PM Yes they are able to view the jpeg, or any other attachment. In the vb they referred to vb.org, to look for a hack that allows to fix that, but i just don't want to do a hack. rolfw 02-04-2007, 05:56 PM That's what I can't understand Julia, i am using vb out of the box on TVB.co.uk and simply by changing the permissions on unregistered users so that they cannot download attachments, stops them from doing so and also stops them from viewing attached pictures. as per this thread (http://www.thamesvalleybirds.co.uk/showthread.php?t=16) You will not be able to see the photos as you are not logged in. Peggy 02-04-2007, 07:34 PM rolfw - yours is acting as it should. I'm not sure why julia would be having this problem, nor why someone at vb.com would tell her she needs a hack to do it julia 02-04-2007, 08:32 PM I went to usergroups, unregistered/ guests, and checked the attach files to no, and it didn't work. VB says it could happen because of the hacks, Ihave a left side hack. I don't know what else to do, they will not help me, since i have the hack. julia 02-04-2007, 08:48 PM As I already told you i thought the problem was the hack, no, i went to the test vb that i have without any hacks, uploaded the attachment, logged out, and it did not let me see it as a guest. However, i come back as admin, view it, then log out again. As a guest i come back and i am able to view the attachment. So i don't understand . Chris 02-05-2007, 07:25 PM Julia I just went to your site and I cannot view your attachments as a guest. It ask me to log in. So it looks to be working just fine. julia 02-06-2007, 12:44 AM Yes, i went at work, and was not able to watch them as a guest. So i guess it works, thanks Chris. ( just not on my comp). Chris 02-06-2007, 12:46 AM Yes, glad it is working for you Julia. :D |
