vBulletin Blog Running on vBulletin.com

Have you noticed the Blogs (http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/blog.php) link up there in the navbar?

The development of the vBulletin blogging product has progressed to the point where we have installed it onto vBulletin.com's forum for the use of all licensed registered visitors, in order to receive feedback (http://www.themesbydesign.net/forums/showthread.php?t=235508) and bug reports (http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/project.php?do=issuelist&projectid=3&issuetypeid=bug) etc.

Currently we are running only the blogging component, not the social networking part, which needs further work before being ready for deployment here.

Please feel free to blog away with the tools at your disposal, and make use of trackback and/or pingback to link your blog at vb.com to blogs elsewhere - this is one of the primary things we'd like to test on a larger scale here on vbulletin.com.

Before you start blogging, you may want to add a name and description to your blog. This can be done via your Blog Control Panel, a link to which can be found on every blog page, or in the list of links from your User Control Panel. It would probably also be useful to set your default blogging options and create some blog categories, the forms for which are also in the Blog Control Panel.

We hope you enjoy exploring vBulletin's new Blog systems and we look forward to receiving your feedback.

I have seen, I have blogged, and I want it - NOW! :)

I have seen and I am disappointed with what I have seen.

Frankly, there are large chunks of it that look and feel exactly like vBlogetin. And then there are a couple of glaring holes that vBlogetin filled quite nicely.

I really think Adrian and Hugh were on to something much better with vBlogetin. Unfortunately, the vBlogetin site seems to be no more, so options have become severely limited. And vB Blog needs an awfy lot of tuning before I will see it as anything other than a step backwards.

Which leaves me with the uncomfortable decision to be made. Do I try to stick with vBlogetin, which is apparently now an orphan, or make the switch to what seems to be a decidedly inferior product in vB Blog?

EDIT - Well, what a difference a few minutes can make. I visited vB.org when I left here and saw word from Adrian that he is simply caught up in a domain issue. That is a tremendous relief, as I was really disappointed with what I saw in vB Blog. vBlogetin will have a long row to hoe, with Jelsoft taking their own share of the market, but I still feel it is the superior product.

Maybe superior atm, but not for long, I don't believe. What you see right now is a public beta. They are still taking feature requests, bug finds, etc. It's not nearly ready to release.

However, I disagree that it's inferior to vBlogetin. I've used vBlogetin, and just playing around with vB Blog yesterday, I honestly do like it better.

PLUS, It has its own templates for easy customizing and skinning - yep, you can use a completely different skin OR use your forum skin.. So guess what? That opens a whole new market for moi :D

And that makes it different from vBlogetin how? Remember, vBlogetin is still beta as well. ;)

Any extra kawfee on your end? I'm jonesin' for a cup.

I had no idea that blogetin was still beta, since it's available for purchase and use.

I'm on my 2nd pot :coffee:

I saw that and I'm sorta interested...I tried to do the Zoints but even the support staff couldn't get it connected and I really wanted some sort of a social networking tool and thought that would be great...

The blog and connected social networking feature is going to be a great addition, imo. I'm really looking forward to the public release. But in the meantime, I'm playing with the public beta blog at vb.com

I just love new toys :D

Careful, as some new toys can give you sore legs. :jiggy:

I'll just be going for my coat now...
