henlyn 12-09-2007, 04:13 AM Can you tell I'm happy? lol:D
Hi guys, I'm thrilled to have found this site. I'm purchasing vBulletin after xmas, the only thing I was concerned about, was the very boring skins available. I know lots of blokes would love them, but my members ,and myself would love cute pretty stuff.
I have been through a few pages here, and up to now I've found a few I would love to use (OK I feel spoiled for choice).
I'm sure I will enjoy it hee, I just hope you don't get fed up with all my questions ( I'll have tons I'm sure) WHY? because I'm thick when it comes to computers, web sites, and forums. I'm already in a panic wondering how I'm going to build the new site.
OK first of many questions...
I keep reading on VB about how hacks, and mods, leave your site open to security issues. Is this only a problem when using skins from far afield? Please may I ask.... the security issues VB speak of.... are they only a problem when codes have been changed dramatically?
Thanks in advance guys
Lynn
P.S Peggy I love this site already. and your work is beautiful!!!
Debbi 12-09-2007, 06:42 AM You have found a gold mine here henlyn. My absolutely favorite thing about Peggy's themes (besides the beautiful graphics) is how she keeps them updated so quickly. You won't find that anywhere else I don't think.
henlyn 12-09-2007, 06:59 AM Debbie, I feel like I have won the lottery finding this place lol, I'm so excited now about getting VB. Having the beautiful work that Peggy creates is going to be fantastic!, (my members will be thrilled too)

Peggy 12-09-2007, 08:16 AM Hello henlyn, welcome to Themes by Design! It's so good to have you here.
Thank you for the many compliments as well - from you too Debbi!
henlyn, as far as security exploits, I do feel that you need to be very careful about the modifications that you install on your forum. (I hate the word "hacks", it sounds illegal, lol. I call them mods).
My advice is to install mods only from coders who have been around a while and enjoy a good reputation at vbulletin.org (http://www.vbulletin.org). The fewer mods you install, the easier future upgrades will be. Coded skins can cause security issues, yes, but not so much as modifications, I think.
This is one of the reasons that I design only css-based themes, with few code and template changes. They're easy to update for both me and my clients, when mods are installed, the template edits are easy because very few edits have been made in the design, in addition to the fact that with my themes, page loads are much quicker for your dial-up internet users (yes they still exist!).
I don't know if you've read about my installation service, but in case you haven't -

I also design custom themes - the least expensive you'll find

Good luck with everything, and I look forward to answering as many questions as I can.
henlyn 12-09-2007, 08:56 AM Peggy, compliments are so easy to give to such a talented, creative lady. I wish I could do just a fraction of what you do.
Hacks!... when I first heard that word on VB I thought OMW! what the heck is all this about, I was worried sick, once I had read little more, I realised what they meant, but as you say it sound Illegal. roflol
I may have to holler for your services when it comes to installing (I'm a total dope when it comes to all this stuff).
I will also holler (in the not so distant future), for a custom skin (or two). One thing I would like to ask... would it be possible to have a photo alongside the name of the group?. If so ....i'll start now taking some pictures now, I want something worthy of being placed on the www (http://www. I)
I actually have a group now on MSN, (Its a Shih Tzu forum), when I have VB up and running. I want pics of my own pooch and maybe my mods pooch on the front page.
Thanks again
Lynn
P.S. I have a very dear friend (she's in my group, we chat on web cams most days)she lives in Ashtabula, is that far from you?
Peggy 12-09-2007, 09:56 AM Lynn is my middle name
Ashtabula is about 1 1/2 hours NW of me. I know right where it's at. I'm in Boardman, just south of Youngstown.
When you say a photo alongside the name of the group... are you talking about on the header image at the top of the forum? If so, yep, that is absolutely possible. So get busy! :D
henlyn 12-09-2007, 10:26 AM Hmmm I don't have a middle name, just plain ole Lynn lol. Here in the UK, lots don't have middle names.
YES !!the header image at the top of the page, (see I told you what I'm like) lol
Wait till I tell Madelyn about you, (my friend from Ashtubula) she is always amazed about the www being so big, yet so small.... " so to speak".
Oh I'm so excited Peggy, I can't wait till the new year to get started with the new group. I'll get snapping as soon as Henry (my pooch) has a bath lol
Here's a pic of my little man, no doubt you'll be seeing lots of his pictures lol
