3.7 Forum Upgrades

Many of you have been asking if I'm going to be upgrading TbD and the themes here, to 3.7.

Upon doing extensive reading at vBulletin.com and .org, I've found that many people who are not interested in the new Social Networking features of 3.7 will not be upgrading their forums, even knowing that they can easily disable (or not enable) the SN features.

Sooooooo... having said that, I've decided that I will be upgrading this forum to 3.7 within the next few days. When you click the Install button on any theme, you will have the option of downloading either 3.6.8 or 3.7.

And as always, when I do start designing for 3.7, you can expect to see them released not only here, but on vBulletin-FAQ and vb.org as well.

For those of you who have not upgraded to 3.7 yet, or who are undecided about doing so, you'll be able to play with the new features of 3.7 here. They will all be enabled, thus aiding you in making your decision as to whether to upgrade or not.

So be looking for alot of changes here at Themes by Design in the coming weeks.
As always, thanks for your patience, interest in, and loyalty to, Themes by Design!

Thanks for the update Peggy :)

I'd be interested to know why some Admins have decided not to upgrade to 3.7 when the new features can be disabled. I have my doubts about the new version too even though I have tested them on other forums.

However, it's nice to know that you will be updating your skins and giving us the option of downloading 3.6.8 or 3.7 so thanks for that

I really don't understand it either Joy, since there are so many other new features with 3.7 that have nothing to do with social networking, i.e. enhanced inline spam management and prevention tools, thread prefixes (LONG requested by yours truly!), attachment viewing lightbox, among many other things.

OHHH and lets not forget the navbar notices!!! Invaluable! UNlike the regular forum announcements that can be overlooked, you can't possibly miss these notices.

I could go on and on, but I'm sure everyone's read the release thread by now.

At any rate, there are enough people who won't be upgrading to make it essential that I continue to offer 3.6.8 styles. :conf05:

I haven't seen the nav bar notices in action yet but they do sound very good. Is it something you would enable on here, when you upgrade, so we can see it working? :)

Yep I sure will.

Hey y'all, the doors are open!! The upgrade of the forum to vB 3.7 Beta4 is complete. However, I'm only about halfway through upgrading the themes to beta4. So if you're looking for one of these themes in that version, it'll be a few more days. The xml files for both 3.6.8, and the latest upgrade of 3.7 will be available in the zips, and I'll make a note on the first post of the theme's release thread, as well as sticky the thread, when the theme has been updated.

In the meantime, please feel free to play around with and enjoy the social networking (hereafter referred to as SN) features to your hearts' content. I'm afraid that I won't be able to answer very many questions about it, but I'll help where I can.

Now it's back to work for me! :)

Well done Peggy

I can't seem to access my 'UserCP' at the moment so I can't check out the new features yet.

hmmm I can't either through that link. Joy, click on the Quick Links menu and the User Control Panel link in the menu. You can check it out that way. I'll work on that navbar link later today.

That seems to be working Peggy

I've only got one concern with the new version so far. Apparently you have to go into your Inbox to see if you have new messages...is there a way to set it so that it will still tell you your PM statistics under the "welcome username" thing at the top of the index page?

Peggy

It does display your PM stats under your Welcome **********. In the same area, you'll see # of profile comments, # of new friend requests, etc. It displays a drop down menu if more than one of those applies.

...Okay, turns out I had PMs disabled. :P I don't remember doing that. Sorry. d:

I have another question though. :) I see on the vbulletin.com forum people can make their own blog. Is that part of 3.7 or part of the vbulletin tools thing that you can buy?

edit: Oh wait I guess I found it (http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/project.php?projectid=3)...

Peggy

The blog is a paid add-on. I won't put that on here, but may do so on TalkOhio eventually.

I really WILL be writing a tutorial for styling your profile! I'm doing a couple of custom designs this week, so please be patient and you won't be disappointed :D

Hi Peggy,

Just looking for SHINE and don't seen to be able to fid it in any version.

Or is it old gae getting to me?

Peggy
05-01-2008, 01:40 AM
Hey watch it, you're not much older than me!! :p

Unfortunately, Shine has been removed from download for a couple of reasons. However, I do plan to "revamp" it next week.

Are you looking for it, for version 3.6.x or 3.7?

Sorry!

what are you using for your postbit _legacy view. I have been on vbulletin-org and have been un sucessful to get the same view you have.

Peggy

Both this site and vBulletin.org use the postbit_legacy (avatar and profile info to the left of post). The regular postbit has the avatar and info on top of the posts.
