Wow, I didn't realize how many backlinks I had. :D I'm still a PR1 and not sure how to move it up. *shrugs* I'm happy anyway! :)

don't worry about anything but increasing the number of backlinks you have! Submit your site to directories, search engines, exchange links with sites whose content is relevant to yours, even purchase links on sites. Get those backlinks!

The # of indexed pages above is the number of pages that google has crawled and indexed in the google search engine

I don't pay attention to Alexa rating... not many people do.

But here are a few brief tips...

1. Submit your site to search engines and directories. There's a good list of directories on vBulletin-FAQ. These are backlinks.

2. Place your forum link in your signature on every forum, blog, etc that you visit and post at. These are backlinks.

3. Ask people that you know to place a link on their site, forum, blog, etc, to your site. Or ask them to exchange links with you. These are backlinks.

Any link from another site to your site is a backlink.

Silly question. If I put that little purple button in my footer, and people click it, will that do anything to help my ranking with any search or ranking engine? Also, for back links, I recently offered my members a link exchange and/or post count bump. If they put a link in their blog, in a content relevant post (poker), then I'd let their blog RSS feed post into a special member blogs forum on my site and bump their post count. I also have the vblogetin.com blog software for my site which also posts all entries to that forum, but those post under a special account and does not help their post counts (yet). :)

popowich, to answer your question. No it won't help improve your ranking. Using back links is one of the best ways to improve your ranking on search engines.

Backlinks are not necessarily the only method of promoting your site in the search engine ranking, constantly variable content and search engine optimisation is very important, possibly now more important than backlinks, as it is less subject to manipulation.

No one implied they were. They are a key to help build a good PR. To build a good PR it takes quite a few different things. The best thing for anyone to do is study up on SEO. There are quite a few resources on the internet that can help in this.
